John LaFalce is in his tenth term in the House as Representative of New York's Twenty-Ninth District. In addition to Small Business, LaFalce serves on the House Banking and Urban Affairs Committees. Born in Buffalo, New York, LaFalce attended Villanova and is an attorney. He now lives in Tonawanda, NY.

Like its counterpart in the Senate, the House Small Business Committee acts as an advocate for the entrepreneurs in the members' districts. The Committee is unique because motivations of its members transcend party lines; serving to remind other Congressional panels of the special problems of small business. Small Business was set up as a select committee in the 1950s and survived an attempt in the 1980s to have it reorganized under the Commerce Department.
